The Milanese tasting event will provide its visitors a full immersion in the world of wine and spirits, through many interesting insights on the sector.

Milan, 9th May 2023 – Inside the evocative location of Palazzo del Ghiaccio, from 20 to 22 May will stage Best Wine Stars, the tasting event sponsored by the city of Milan, that puts under the spotlight selected Italian and international companies, from the food, wine and spirits sectors.

For this edition, the focus is to enhance the tale of the history and uniqueness of each wine and distillate. In fact, there will be many moments of in-depht study that will enrich the three days of the event.

The masterclasses, chaired by the writer, digital narrator, sommelier and entrepreneur Adua Villa accompanied by a team of speakers of excellence, will take place on Saturday the 20th        and Sunday the 21st of May.

Opening the calendar, full of appointments, will be Adua Villa and Stefania Vinciguerra with two dedicated masterclasses. The first one by Varvaglione is entitled “Discovery of Primitivo… and not only“, while the second  one by Col Vetoraz Spumanti is focused on “VALDIBBIADENE DOCG, the vertical that you do not expect“.

The Tasting Room by Bartales Bitter is Better”, led by Fabio Bacchi, will be dedicated to the world of the distillates, and in particular to the history and evolution of the bitter through the tasting of the products of the companies: Cardamaro, Formidabile, Rossi D’Angera, Sarandrea, Sibilla, Sirene e Tonico Pugliese.

On saturday afternoon, Francesco Quarna will accompany Adua Villa during the appointments “Sensitive to Sustainability“, starring the companies Borgoverde Soc Agricola S.S., Bulichella, Marisa Cuomo and Monviert, and “Wine on Tour” where you can taste the labels of Cantina Nepos Villae, Cantina La Lignite and Azienda Agricola del Frassino di Zenato Carlo.

The vertical masterclasses scheduled on Sunday will be “Journey through the terroirs of Veneto” by Terre del Dogado and “The Langhe” by L’Astemia Pentita chaired by Adua Villa and Alessandra Piubello. Valentina Vercelli, finally, will assist Adua during the tastings of the products of the companies Fiorotto 1934 with masterclass entitled “A Family Story“, Consorzio Terre di Reggio Calabria Between myth and present” and Champagne Jarry Héritage that will treat “The expression of Chardonnay coming from the same territory interpreted through different winemaking processes“.

On Monday 22nd May  there will be talks and round tables that will involve the journalist, television presenter and “chronicler of gastronomy” Edoardo Raspelli, who will tell his story during an interview that will simultaneously retrace the path of Italian food and wine of the last 50 years; the journalist of Il Sole 24 Ore, writer and teacher of digital communication Barbara Sgarzi who will deepen the topic “Wine, Women and Leadership“; Paola Longo, owner of Enoteca Longo, in the heart of Legnano, with which she won the Oscar as the best wine shop in Italy in 2000, will focus on “The art of giving food&wine”, taking the audience through a journey in the wine sector, skilfully interweaving the history of a passion and that of a company. Moreover, Marco Boldrini, sommelier, owner of several Italian restaurants in the Netherlands and consultant of a Japanese company that imports Italian wine excellencies, will investigate the close relationship between wines and catering, while Antonietta Tummolo, Best Wine Stars Ambassador, will present the Project  “VENUS and BACCHUS” The Myths of Wine. Exclusive patroness of the event the Basilicata Region. Take part, in remote connection, Vito Bardi, President Regione Basilicata, Alessandro Galella, Councillor for Productive Activities, Work, Training and Sport, and Ivana Enrica Pipponzi, Regional Councillor for Equality.  The participation for the 2024 Edition of the National Association of “Le Donne del Vino”- Delegazione Lucana will mark the debut of a new presence,  the feminine presence in the world of wine, from the sacred to the profane, starting from two mythological figures with multiple interpretations. The economic focus will also show  the increasing number of Women who operate and work in the world of wine with excellent results.

On Sunday, May 21st at 10:30 will take place the ceremony of the Best Wine Stars Awards that will award several prizes and awards: Best Sparkling Wine, Best White Wine, Best Red Wine, Best Spirits and Best Rosè Wine. The winners of these categories will receive free participation in the 2024 edition; the winning companies of the Best Logo and Best Label awards will have the opportunity to be involved as Wine Sponsors in international events organized by Prodes Italia. The Landini Prize awarded by the Italian brand belonging to the Argo Tractors Group, as Main Sponsor, will select the best winery that will win the commemorative plaque and a voucher for the purchase of a Landini agricultural tractor.

The award ceremony that will be held inside the Palazzo del Ghiaccio in the Sala Piranesi, is open not only to the exhibiting companies, but also to journalists of the sector.

Important consortia and associations of the Italian panorama will also participate to the event, such as the aforementioned Consorzio Terre di Reggio Calabria, the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo di Manduria, the Consorzio dei Vini Piceni, the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini, Assovini Sicilia and the Consorzio Italbiotec.

Also numerous, are the companies producing spirits, which will be available for tasting in the Spirits Area. In particular, bitters and liqueurs presented by companies Albergian, Archè, Grigno Spirits, Palombaro, Passarè Antico Molise, Silvio Carta and Spirito del Farmacista. As for gin producers, however, there will be Alfa Spirits, Alta Marea Gin, CàMai Gin, Pordenon Roberto’s 52F Line, GINMILANO, GiniRock, Lacus Dry Gin, Stilldrinks, The Artisan and Trevisi Gin.

In the Food Area Agorà from Ascoli Piceno with its tipical Ascolan olives, Antica Focacceria S. Francesco will delight the palates of visitors with their proposals of Sicilian products, Pastificio Gioia offers handmade pasta and typical Calabrian sauces, Revolucion Cocina Messicana with South American dishes and Sushita with Japanese cuisine.

A new feature of Best Wine Stars 2023 will be “Best Wine Stars Business Dinner“, an initiative that will allow selected companies to cross the borders of Palazzo del Ghiaccio and present their products during two exclusive dinners that will take place in the elegant and innovative SIX Milano, in the heart of Porta Nuova. During the evenings of May 20 and 21, in fact, buyers and journalists will be able to discover more closely the excellencies of each company combined with dishes specifically designed for each label.

Important foreign buyers and importers from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, England, Holland, Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden will be present at the event. Important digital creators from the food and wine sector have been involved to report the three days of the event through live contents, interviews, videos and reels for a smarter and digital audience amplifying the visibility of the initiative.

USEFUL INFORMATIONS

The event will take place from 20 to 22 May at Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Via Giovanni Battista Piranesi, 14 – Milan, with the following hours: 20/21 May at 12:00 – 21:00, 22 May at 10:00 – 18:00

Entrances are open from 12:00 to 19:00, while Monday entrances will be closed at 16:00.

The entry to the event is free for all professionals and journalists.

Sommeliers are entitled to a 50% discount on the purchase price.

Lovers can buy the ticket to enter the event; a 20% discount is reserved for those who will make the purchase by 14 May 2023. From 15 May onwards the cost of the ticket will be 25 euros.

The accreditation or ticket entitles you to access the event, unlimited tastings, tasting glasses and participation in Masterclasses and talks, upon reservation (seats are limited).
